Matrix and Animatrix

Matrix and Animatrix

First of all the matrix is the main story, where all the other movies were based on. In a brief summary: The matrix is the system of control used by the machines, that somewhere in time took over the control of the earth. Humans and machines have lived in a war ever since, in this movie its not known who exactly started the war. The problem is that in some point the humans turned the sky black to cut of the power of the machines, the machines unable to get energy from the source turned their attention to a new source of energy...HUMANS. They use humans as batteries. In this movie the main character is Thomas Anderson aka-Neo. The movie is about this main character first discovers how he indeed is part of a system of control, and that the real world is nothing like he thinks it is, and it is also about the journey of discovering that he is the ONE that is going to help end the war once and for all the war between men and the machines.

On the other hand we have the animatrix, this is a movie created after The Matrix and released just before Matrix reloaded, this film show stories of people in the matrix. There are three main shorts in this movie, Second Renaissance part 1 & 2 and The Final Flight of the Osiris. the first two tell the story of how the war between humans and machines started, it is purely historical. The second is the introduction to the second movie Matrix Reloaded, tells the story of how the humans found out about the machines that were about to attack their main city. The other shorts either go deep into personal histories of character like Trinity or introduces new characters in the mainstream story, like the kid, that appears in Kids Story and the same character appears in the second film making reference to the animatrix short.

The main difference between The matrix and Animatrix is that the first one is a full-fledged movie, that sets the whole story. The second one is more like an complementary film used to clear out some doubts and to be the bridge between the first and second movie. Another important difference is that Matrix has the Wachowski brothers as directors and in the Animatrix each short has a different director each one printing his vision of the Matrix based on the concepts created by the Wachowski brothers.

PIXAR COMENT

How the pixel-packing upstart became an animation superpower and left Disney in the dust.

I really like this article because through it I could learn lots of things. Before reading it, I thought that PIXAR was so successful because of its animation, but now I realize its all about a good story.

I also found interesting the steps on how movies are made:

It starts with narratives that are pitched as a storyboard and then cut into a story reel, a tightly edited compilation of sketches to gauge pace and timing.

With the story reel complete, next comes the soundtrack. Disney animators use "scratch" voices rather than professional actors for preliminary dialog.

According to the Disney timetable, this preproduction period lasts two years.

After that, another two years are dedicated to the production itself: modeling, animating, and rendering.

The quote that I liked the most in this article, was the one said by Catmull: “What you do first is hire the people whose talent threatens you, people like Brad Bird” because that mentality is the one that people of PIXAR have, and that will help you to achieve success in any work you do, in any time, that’s what make the difference.

I think it was good to read this article because you realized how Brad Bird becomes a fundamental member of this company, by knowing that his story was the most important thing of working at PIXAR

Many people tried to bring him down by telling him that was impossible, or at least that it would take 10 years to make “The Incredibles” but he believe that his ideas were reachable.

Francis Ford Coppola

Francis Ford Coppola

Francis Ford Coppola (born April 7, 1939) is an American film director, producer, magazine publisher and screenwriter.
Coppola attended Great Neck High School on Long Island, where he began his study of film-making, music, and theatre. In 1955 he went on to attend Hofstra University in New York, majoring in theatre arts. Coppola completed his formal education in film in UCLA's graduate program.

Coppola is most famous for The Godfather series, the first part of which was released in 1972 and has now become a classic. The Godfather starred, amongst other notables, Marlon Brando, Al Pacino, and Robert Duvall. It received many awards and achieved great success.

Perhaps Coppola's second most popular and acclaimed movie is Apocalypse Now (1979), a Vietnam War epic that did well both in the critics' eyes and the box office. Like The Godfather, Apocalypse Now's cast was star-studded

In addition to directing, Coppola has worked as writer and producer. He has contributed to the screenplays of movies he has directed (including The Godfather and Apocalypse Now) as well as to the 1974 film adaptation of F. Scott Fitzgerald's novel The Great Gatsby. As a producer, Coppola's credit list becomes even longer and more impressive. Not only has he helped to produce some of his daughter Sofia's movies (The Virgin Suicides, Lost in Translation, Marie Antoinette), but also Tim Burton's Sleepy Hollow (1999), Robert Duvall's Assassination Tango(2002), and Robert De Niro's The Good Shepherd (2006).

Mercutio

My favorite character in Romeo and Juliet is Mercutio.

I chose him because of his personality, he was very loyal with Romeo, he also was very comic, in some chapters we can see that his childish behaviour makes him say inappropiate comments, he is always making jokes, even when he dies.
I think that sometimes it's good to laugh about any situation including the bad ones.
